At Wildlings Forest School children don't only learn about the nature of the woodland but also how to protect it. Children will learn a lot of scientific and geography based knowledge whether it is learning about tree types, building shelters and testing materials, creating fires, making bug hotels or learning about habitats. Forest school is much more than this, it teaches children to manage their own basic needs, how to develop friendships and social skills. It is great for helping children to work as a team, problem solve and be creative together. It teaches children to be independent, curious and to develop a love of learning.
Our Mission is to provide a well balanced education for all children. We explore the wonders of nature together, letting learning take place beyond the classroom walls. We aim to help children to develop their personal, social and emotional skills through teambuilding activities and developing a sense of community. We want our learners to enhance their language and communication skills in a non pressured environment where they are free to express themselves. We let children find their own sense of creativity and allow them opportunities to let this flourish. We want children to make friends and memories for life.
If you have an outdoor space with trees or a woodland area, Wildlings Forest School can come to work with pupils at your primary school . We bring all of our resources with us including a portable fire pit, tools, shelters etc. All that we would ask for is that the children are suitably dressed waterproofs/wellies and that staffing pupil ratio is suitable for the sessions. The forest school leader will come and visit your school prior to the sessions starting to create a phase 1 assessment where we observe and record the flora and fauna in your setting. We will share our own handbook with you, risk assessments will be amended to suit your woodland area and we will need to share policies together to ensure that they align.

My name is Kirsten, I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 13 years experience in teaching early years and key stage 1. I am also a mummy to three children ages 8 , 6 and 1.
I was first introduced into forest schools when my eldest was 2. It is something that we both loved and my middle child was immersed into from a teeny baby. It was such a positive experience that we took part in together and was brilliant for my mental health. My daughter was in her absolute element, her language progressed and her social and emotional skills flourished. Even now at the age of 8, she comments on how it was one of her favourite things when she was little and how happy it made her.
Since then I have made it my mission to learn more about outdoor learning , being able to teach beyond the classroom walls and support children's wellbeing. Children spend so much time working on their academic skills that areas such as 'personal social and emotional' skills and 'communication and language' skills do not have enough time dedicated to them.
After revisiting my earlier studies it became clear to me that children need their basic needs met and nuturing before they can access new learning. As a mum I knew this with my own children and realised that this is something that we need to implement into our daily teaching so that children are able to achieve their full potential and be a happy confident learner. This is when I decided to learn more about this, become a forest school leader and make an impact on children's lives.
